Sea Canoeing

sea-canoeing-phuket

An absolutely magical adventure, and one not to be missed, explore the islands and ‘hongs’ (hollows in the centre of islands) of the enchanting Phang Nga Bay National Marine Park, by sea canoe. Encounter the spectacular nature and beauty of this region, only accessible by canoe, and experience a little of Thailand’s charming local culture.  With a long history of providing excellent and ecologically-sound marine adventures, we are confident you will enjoy these amazing, well-organised sea safaris.

Tour Options

  • Choose from single day exploring the bay, or an overnight camping expedition with the option to add extra nights.
  • Transport to each location is by large escort boat, and the exact location for each excursion is chosen on the day to avoid the crowds and ensure the best possible experience for our guests.
  • Tours are available every day of the week; advance booking is highly recommended.

Hong by Starlight

A single day trip, and an excellent option for everyone! Your guides will do all the work, and no prior canoeing experience is necessary.

After being collected from your accommodation and transferred to Ao Por Pier, you will be welcomed on board your escort boat for the day with refreshments and a light Thai lunch. While travelling north-east from Phuket, your friendly guides will introduce themselves, give a boat briefing, and tell you about the activities of the day ahead.

On arrival at the first island, you’ll board the sea canoes with your personal guide, and you’ll be paddled toward the outer wall of the island. Hongs are only accessible when the tide is right, and depending on the water level, you might be asked to lie down in your canoe to be able to squeeze through the island’s tunnels. Truly an adventure and an amazing way to see the mussels and crabs which live amongst the rocks. Once through the perimeter wall, you’ll find yourself on a lake in the centre of the island, surrounded by unspoilt nature, and almost completely sealed off from the outside world! While paddling around the hong, your guide will happily answer your questions and give you unique insight into the animal and plant life that flourishes within these unique and fascinating environments.

On return to the escort boat, you’ll have the chance to take a swim, or self-paddle and go exploring on your own, then back on board, as it starts to gets dark, your guides will help you to craft your own ‘Krathong’. Part of traditional Thai culture, a Kratong is a floating decoration made of bamboo, banana leaves, flowers and candles, which is launched on lakes, rivers and seas to commemorate the festival of Loi Krathong. After watching the sun go down over the bay, you’ll return to your canoes and with your Kratong, and head to a nearby cave for launch.

In the darkness of the cave you’ll have the chance to observe the sea’s luminescent organisms which glow a fairy-like light when the water is disturbed - a marvellous glimpse of nature at its most magical. You’ll then light the candles and launch your Krathong gently onto the sea, and in keeping with tradition, make a wish as you do so. Watching the flickering candles floating under the starlight is a wholesome, even spiritual experience, not soon to be forgotten!

Back on the boat, dinner has been laid out, so enjoy a delicious Thai seafood buffet as the boat journeys back to Phuket. A wonderful day comes to an end as you arrive back at the pier, and are then driven back to your accommodation.
